How Did Hot Desert Knights Begin?
Actually the story is kind of unique. In 1998 we started having bareback parties at our home in Palm Springs. They grew from just a few friends to more than 200 guys.  We moved the parties from our home to one of the local gay resorts and eventually purchased what was to be known as The HDK Dungeon.  At the time we started the parties we owned a business that produced safety training videos for industry and private corporations.  At the end of one of the first parties we were sitting around naked, relaxing, and one of the guys said; “you guys make videos, right?”, we said “yes” and he said; “well, why don’t you make bareback fuck videos?”  Our response was; “because we had never thought about it.”  Well, we started thinking about it, did some research on the net to see if their was a market for such videos and it seemed that their was.  In February 1999 we filmed and produced our first two films and put them on the net to see what would happen. They were a hit and we’ve been producing them ever since.

Absolutely! Our credit card online processor uses the latest state of the art encryption technology. Your order is transmitted to them electronically through our secure SSL server. Once processed which is usually within a few seconds, you will receive your email confirmation of the order. If you look at it, you will see where most of your credit card numbers have been deleted for security. The same is true when we get your order on our computers, only the last 4 digits of your credit card number are viewable.

Why bareback videos….why not just produce the standard gay adult vids like all the other companies?
Easy question to answer. John and I don’t like condoms and we seldom use them unless we are playing with someone who lets us know they are HIV negative.  In gay adult films we don’t like the “mystery” condoms that magically appear. One minute it’s not there, and the next there it is. We think that a lot of “barebacking” is going on because guys are sick and tired of being preached at and feel that as adults they are free to do as they choose.  Same way for our films. We don’t encourage unsafe sex, but we do say that as adults we are all free to make our own decisions regarding the levels of risks we are willing to take.  HDK is free to make bareback videos and offer them to the public as a fantasy.  If their wasn’t a demand for our tyep of films, we wouldn’t still be in business long. There is a huge demand for our films so we are obviously filling a need.   Many of our customers tell us that they buy our films because it fulfills a fantasy for them.  Many other customers tell us they buy our films because they do bareback in their personal lives and they are tired of seeing videos made with condoms.  So, as long as the demand is there, as long as our customers continue to buy our films, we will continue to make them.

Don’t you think that by making bareback videos you are encouraging the practice of unsafe sex and thus the spread of HIV?
No, not at all.  Nor do we think that smoking grass leads to heroin addiction  or that watching an episode of Law and Order is going to make you go out and shoot someone.  Our videos are sold to adults…..you know, grown ups, who have made the decision to watch bareback videos.  Our videos are not going to convince someone to go out and have unsafe sex.  Simply watching a video is not going to change someone’s mind regarding sex….whether to have it or not have it, nor is it going to change someone’s mind as to the type of sex they are going to have. To say that it will, tends to lessen the intelligence of the viewer. At the beginning of each film and on each box cover we have a very lengthy statement. In essence it says that if you are HIV negative you should do everything in your power to stay that way.

What about the guys in your videos, are they HIV+?
That is not something we are a liberty to divulge other than to say that some of the guys are positive and some of the guys are negative.  We pair the guys up based on “sero-sorting”, meaning that we place negative guys with negative guys and positive guys with positive guys.

What about “bug-chasing” or “gift giving”?
Frankly we think it’s stupid.  To knowingly want to become infected with HIV is just dumb.  To knowingly infect someone with HIV is just plain wrong and sick.  We do not encourage gift giving or bug chasing at our parties, nor do we allow it in our films.  But then again, that is only our opinion. What you do with your “fully informed, consenting sex partner” is your business……not ours.  But, you won’t do it in our house or in our films.Guys, the bottom line is this. There is nothing to be ashamed of because of one’s HIV status.  Whether or not to use condoms is a decision that only you can make  We all have a responsibility to protect ourselves. If you are HIV negative, we would strongly encourage you NOT to bareback and to do everything you can to stay negative. HIV is not pretty. It is, NOT curable. It is NOT under control.  Even though we have meds that are helping all HIV positive guys to live longer, guys are STILL dying from this fucking disease……..but all of that being said, as a fully informed adult, you have the right to have whatever type of sex you choose in the privacy of your own home, providing your partner is also a fully informed adult.
